About PJS Health
Phil Sayce is a consultant clinical hypnotherapist specialising in the relationship between the mind, the body and our actions. Phil pays particular attention to how our thoughts, feelings, biology and behaviours are interlinked, and how these strands form the basis of our human experience. Phil's approach, while largely eclectic, makes use of social learning theory to inform his work. This approach values the inherent capability of the mind to protect oneself. People learn how to facilitate this protective work in our everyday lives. It is this learning that is attended to in the therapeutic session.
Phil has spent over 20 years working with people who are experiencing long term and serious physical illnesses and has a particular interest in how people adapt to these and manage their illness in their everyday life. Phil's interest in preventing and managing physical ill health extends to working with people who engage in health damaging behaviours, which include smoking cessation, weight management, alcohol and substance use, exercise and sleep problems as well as the wider health related issues such as stress, anxiety, depression and the more positive aspects of the human experience such as harnessing creative thinking, maximising academic achievement, effective presentation skills and public speaking. Phil has a particular interest in working with people who experience anxieties surrounding medical and dental treatment and undertakes work with people preparing for these treatments.
Phil lectures in Psychology, health and illness at Cardiff University and conducts research on the effects of stress, fatigue and personal characteristics on decision making alongside exploring the clinical effectiveness of psychological interventions on health related behaviours. As a member of the Society of Brief Clinical Strategic Hypno Therapists and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society Phil is a professional psychologist. In recognition of his work within healthcare, Phil has been elected as a Fellow of both
The Royal Society of Public Health and
The Royal Society of Medicine. Phil is also registered with the
Nursing and Midwifery Council for the United Kingdom.
Phil has developed his expertise through many years of teaching and clinical work with a wide range of clients. He believes in treating the whole person and sees the mind as a powerful resource that can be utilised to help people overcome a range of issues in their lives.
Phil trained as a hypnotherapist with the prestigious
BST Foundation who currently lead the way in training for professional and ethical hypnotherapy practice.
